National hunting lands

The Choctaw National Wildlife Refuge is located in southwest Alabama along the Tombigbee River approximately 80 miles north of Mobile. map

Eufaula National Wildlife Refuge was established in 1964, on the Walter F. George Reservoir (Lake Eufaula) in cooperation with the Corps of Engineers (COE). map

Key Cave NWR, about 5 miles southwest of Florence, Alabama, was established in 1997 to ensure the biological integrity of Key Cave, Collier Cave, and the aquifer common to both. map

Little River Canyon National Preserve flows for most of its length atop Lookout Mountain in northeast Alabama. The river and canyon systems are spectacular Appalachian Plateau landscapes any season of the year.

Wheeler National Wildlife Refuge-Wheeler NWR, located along the Tennessee River between Huntsville and Decatur, was established in 1938 to provide habitat for wintering and migrating birds. map

A portion of the Odessa Wildlife Area has been designated as a controlled site hunting area.   Daily permits are required to hunt in the controlled portion of the Odessa area during the waterfowl season.  Hunters hunting the controlled area, receive their permits at the check station and are required to check their bag at the check station before leaving the area. Drawings are held approximately 90 minutes before shooting time for the purpose of selecting stake sites. For information contact the area office: (319) 523-8319.

Potomac River
     The Potomac river can be hunt from a boat and all areas are fine as long as discretion is used to public use areas. Access to the river on the Maryland side requires crossing the C&O canal, which is Federal Government property and must be done so at designinated crossing places. They are listed below:

Weverton - Mile 58.18 Access carry in via direct route from cul-de-sac at end of Keep Tryst Road.

Lock 34 (Goodhearts Lock) - Mile 61.57 Access directly from parking area and across towpath to Potomac River.

Dargan Bend - Mile 64.89 Access via boat ramp to Potomac River.

Antietam Creek - Mile 69.36 Access by boat via Antietam Creek from Harpers Ferry Road, upstream of aqueduct.

Snyders Landing - Mile 76.65 Access via boat ramp to Potomac River.

Taylors Landing - Mile 80.90 Access via boat ramp to Potomac River.

Dam 4 Road – Mile 84.2 Access via direct route to river around new gate, just past 90 degree bend in road.

Big Slackwater - Mile 85.40 Access via boat ramp to Potomac River.

Potomac Fish and Game - Mile 93.88 Access via private ramp. Membership Required

Funkstown Rod and Gun Club – Mile 96.7 Access for current club members via their current river access. Membership Required

Williamsport - Mile 99.79 Access via boat ramp at River Bottom Park (City of Williamsport)

Four Locks - Mile 108.74 Access via boat ramp to Potomac River.

McCoys Ferry - Mile 110.42 Access via boat ramp to Potomac River.

Licking Creek - Mile 116.04 Access by boat ramp via Licking Creek.

Hancock (Little Tonoloway) - Mile 124.33 Access via boat ramp to Potomac River.

Cohill Station - Mile 129.99 Access from park footbridge across canal on Deneen Road directly to river.

 

Chesapeake Forest Lands

Dorchester County - Insley complex (1.2 miles of shoreline), Lewis complex (4.3 miles of shoreline), and the Marshy Hope complex (4.3 miles of shoreline)

Wicomico County - Fair Meadow (1.8 miles of shoreline), the Greenhill complex (.5 miles of shoreline), The Lewis-Horner complex (.33 miles of shoreline), and the Ventor/Lanthrop complex (1.4 miles of shoreline).

Chesapeake Forest Lands have certain guidelines you must follow.

bullet You may not hunt with in 150 yards of an occupied structure or camp.
bullet You may not hunt with in 150 feet of the exterior boundaries of the Chesapeake Forest Lands or to shoot from or across any public road.
